Public housing was established by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible senior citizens age 62 and older, and persons with disabilities age 18 and older. Public housing comes in all sizes and types. In Freeport, there are 2 separate apartment complexes. Please Note: Freeport Housing Authority DOES NOT have Family Housing.<\/p>\n
Public housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. The Freeport Housing Authority determines your eligibility based on: 1) annual gross income; 2) whether you qualify as a senior citizen or a person with a disability over 18 years old and without children; and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status.<\/p>\n
